DSPS Program Specialist - 1.0 FTE - 12 Month CATEGORICALLY FUNDED - POSITION CONTINGENT ON CONTINUED FUNDING

Location: Woodland Community College - Woodland, CA

Job Description:
BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Director of Disabled Students Programs and Services, the Program Specialist will provide information to students, staff and the general public regarding program policies and procedures. The Program Specialist will provide services to students with both physical and learning disabilities in the DSPS Program.

Essential Duties Summary:
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Utilize computer technologies and software programs to update student records, assure integrity of DSPS database management and MIS reporting; create, maintain and retrieve on line data for reports and student tracking. (E)

Provide daily operational support of ACT lab as prescribed by DSPS faculty, assist in establishing and enforcing policies and procedures. Consult with campus run computer labs for recency of computer software and cross capability with curriculum offered. (E)

Coordinate the production of information in alternative formats; install, configure and maintain approved assistive technology equipment and software; such as, screen reading, voice recognition, magnification and Braille hardware and software. (E)

Provide general support to students in the operation of computer assisted instructional programs as prescribed by DSPS faculty; maintain software and hardware. Provide software installation, configuration, inventory and software updates in consultation with District Information Technologies. (E)

Interview students to obtain intake information; evaluate documentation for discerning eligibility for programming in accordance with Title 5 and District policy; request additional information from students as needed. (E)

Develop and maintain confidential program files including medical verification, assessments and student information. Maintain resource bank of assistive strategies for various disabilities and for the various instructional and information media used by faculty and staff. (E)

Consult with faculty regarding appropriate accommodations, monitor student progress and provide tutor and extra-curricular support assistant as needed. (E)

Provide for test-proctoring services and accommodations for students such as note-takers, readers, and special equipment checkout and mobility assistance. (E)

Prepare tutorial material as assigned by certificated staff; facilitate extra curricular support for small groups; refer problems to faculty or supervisor for assistance and resolution. Provide one-on-one and group training for faculty, staff, and students in the areas of assistive technology and alternate media. (E)

Prepare routine correspondence, forms and reports regarding student status and other information relative to record keeping; respond to requests from other institutions and agencies regarding program protocol and student status. (E)

Under the guidance of Learning Disabilities staff, provide support in the administration and scoring of achievement tests including, but not limited to, the Woodcock Johnson, WAIS III, Nelson Denny, Degrees of Reading Power, Wide Range Achievements Test Expanded Edition and including any new or revised measures included by the Chancellor s office within the Learning Disabilities Eligibility Model. (E)

Provide input to the Director in the development of budget requests, research and calculate costs, verify calculations made by others, compile information for and make recommendations on projected expenditures. (E)

Provide services to students with both physical and learning disabilities. (E)

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Utilize questioning and discovery strategies for leading students into the acquisition of new information.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Maintain knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements and restrictions.

Plan and organize work.

Work with confidential/sensitive information with discretion.

Operate computer technology equipment.

Required Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: a Bachelor s Degree in a related field and two years of experience working with disabled individuals.

Range/Step: Range 31, CSEA Salary Schedule.

Salary Range: $3,725.16 - $4,106.99/MO.

Benefits Information:
PART-TIME (less than .60 FTE): Part-time positions less than .60 FTE are not entitled to any District paid fringe benefits. The District does however; provide the employee prorated leaves including vacation, sick leave and paid holidays. Employees less than .50 FTE contribute to an Alternative Retirement System (Apple). Employees whose, FTE is between .50 and .60 contribute to the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS).

BENEFITS/SALARY: The District offers a comprehensive benefits package for employees and dependents for positions whose FTE is .60 or higher, valued at over $24,000 annually with a $310.50 monthly out of pocket expense to employees + dependents for their monthly medical premiums. The package includes health, dental, vision, one (1) life insurance policy and an Employee Assistance program. Additional benefits include contributions to the Public Employee s Retirement System (PERS), which is integrated with Social Security, 457/403b options, Vacation days 7.33 hrs per month for the first year, 96 hours of vacation leave per years 1-5, 12 sick days and 20 holidays.

SALARY: Step 1: $ 44,701.95 /YR. $ 54,335.50/YR Range 31, CSEA Salary Schedule, initial placement will not be higher than Step 3 of the salary schedule, the top step for this position is $4,106.99/MO.). TOP OF THE SALARY SCHEDULE IS STEP 10 $5,382.70/MO OR $64,592.38/YR
